Greetings from the Section on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues!

In October of this year, we began accepting nominations for elected and appointed positions on our executive committee. We are pleased to report that all positions have been filled. As a team of returning and newly inducted committee members, we look forward to further advancing the goals of the section during the coming year. Please join us as we welcome our newly elected and appointed officers:

  • Stephanie Graham, Chairperson-Elect
  • Christopher Davis, Treasurer
  • Bonie Benson-Palmgren, Secretary
  • Douglas Knutson, Communications Chair
  • Shavuan Sam, Diversity Officer
  • Todd Raymond Avellar, Member-At-Large
  • Adrian Rodriguez, Member-At-Large
  • Hunter Sulley, Student Representative

For more information on our executive committee, feel free to visit our leadership page: https://scp.wpengine.com/lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender-issues/leadership

The leadership page is now offered through our updated website. Last month, we made the decision to move our section’s web presence into the larger div17.org website. Doing so will allow us to better coordinate with the division and will help us to cut costs so that funds can be allotted to other division activities and services. To access our site, please visit: https://scp.wpengine.com/lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender-issues/ If you have any questions or comments about the current website, please contact our Communications Chair, Douglas Knutson, at [email protected]

We are also excited to announce that SLGBTI will be hosting a happy hour at the 2017 National Multicultural Conference and Summit. The section will provide appetizers and an opportunity for individuals committed to LGBT issues to reconnect at the conference. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SLGBTI/) or our website for updates as the conference approaches. You may also contact our Treasurer, Christopher Davids, at [email protected] for more information.

As we enter the coming year, please keep an eye on the section website and on our social media outlets. If you have not followed our Facebook page, please feel free to do so. We look forward to serving you in the coming year.

Douglas Knutson, M.Ed., M.T.S.

Communications Chair, SLGBTI
