We’re here! We’re queer! Come join us at the Annual SLGBTI Dinner!

With convention fast approaching and the number of convention emails ever increasing, I wanted to spotlight the Section on LGBT Issues’ annual dinner. On Thursday, August 8th from 7-9 pm we’ll “break free” at 14 Parish.

As the Treasurer for the SLGBTI section, I have had the pleasure of being involved with the planning for the event, and I cannot wait to attend it myself!

When you join our fantastic section for dinner, you get to…

  • Hangout with people who are genuinely passionate about LGBT issues and, at their core, are Counseling Psychologists.
  • View frontline research and connect with cutting-edge researchers of LGBTQ issues (many of whom are students!). This year the section is highlighting topics related to self-concealment and well-being, intersectionality between race and sexuality, and the impact of peer group involvement on queer students’ depression.
  • Enjoy delicious food with a Caribbean flare just a short distance from the conference! 14 Parish is hosting our dinner.
  • Celebrate with and meet the future of our field! We had three amazing graduate students win the 2019 LGBT Outstanding Graduate Student Award, and these folks done incredible things.

Based on my work as an officer in the section, I think it’s reasonable to say we’re a bunch of incredible people and we’d love to have you become part of our family.  It isn’t necessary to come to the dinner in order to become involved. In fact, we have a whole slate of events at the convention. Please plan to attend our business meeting where you’ll meet our amazing executive board and will have the chance to ask questions about how to get connected with the section.

If you’re able to attend click here to register.  The cost for professionals is $50 and for students it is $45.  Students who would like to attend and are interested in sponsorship; there is an option to indicate this preference on the form. If you cannot attend, but would like to sponsor a student or would like to make a donation to the Section, feel free to send me an email, and we’ll make it happen!

On behalf of the Section on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender issues, you at SLGBTI’s events! I hope you won’t miss out!
