2020 Counseling Psychology Conference (Cancelled)

***Cancelled***

Dear CPC 2020 Registrants and Counseling Psychology Communities,

Thank you each for your patience with us as we have been monitoring the impact of COVID-19 on our conference. We have been tirelessly consulting with NOLA and national partners related to public health, our three Executive Boards (ACCTA, CCPTP, SCP), and APA to identify the best course of action with regard to the 2020 Counseling Psychology Conference. We have also appreciated our communications with those of you who have reached out to us and expressed concerns, support, and more. As Tri-Chairs, we genuinely feel your collective support.

As you may also be aware, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic, states of emergency have been declared by governors in a large number of states, many universities have banned domestic travel for university business, and travel is being disrupted across the U.S. Based on each of these travel restrictions prohibiting presenters and attendees from traveling, and decreed states of emergency, we have decided that it is impossible to move forward with CPC 2020.

This has been a challenging decision to make, as we have been so excited to gather with our beloved counseling psychology community. We have taken this decision very seriously, as in addition to the business reasons outlined above, we have also wanted to be mindful of all of the potential impacts on our community – from health risks to those over 60 years old and those with underlying health conditions to financial considerations for registrants to the social and emotional effects of not being able to connect with others when we have all been so excited about our family gathering and reunion.

Throughout the conference planning, we have sought to implement our hallmark counseling psychology values, especially liberation principles; and, we will continue to do so as we move forward from here. We are in the midst of setting up a Frequently Asked Questions page off of our website here to address important questions and requests you may have. We know that our student attendees are especially impacted, so we are asking for our awesome counseling psychology mentors (e.g., faculty advisors, training directors) to reach out to them and support them right now.

We know you are wondering what you can do to help us as we proceed. We ask for your patience and understanding with our process. Further instructions will come to you via email from the CVENT registration platform about registration fee refunds. The #1 thing you can do to help us is to please wait for the communication through the CVENT registration platform.

If you made a reservation at the conference hotel, the Sheraton NOLA, they will automatically cancel reservations made with the conference code.  If you did not book at the Sheraton with the CPC code, you must cancel your reservation yourself using the procedures noted in the reservation. Also, please contact your airline/bus/train to cancel reservations.

Finally, we want to recognize and thank the CPC 2020 Steering Committee members, Committee Chairs, and countless other volunteers for all of their incredible planning work and dedication on behalf of our conference. We realize we all have much more work ahead of us, and we want to honor and value all of their efforts moving forward.

Please take good care of yourself and one another,

Your CPC 2020 Tri-Chairs, Anneliese Singh (SCP), Julia Phillips (CCPTP), and Carmen Cruz (ACCTA)
