Jim Lichtenberg headshot2015 August SCP Announcements

Dear SCP members and affiliates,

I am honored to serve as your 2015-2016 SCP President and look forward to working with you in the coming year.  Over this next year, I will work diligently to fulfill my duties to SCP while
delivering my initiatives to better advance the Society.

My presidential theme is SCP: Fulfilling our Mission as an Organization and Profession. In support of this, my initiatives and related actions are:

Education and Training

  1. Update the Counseling Psychology model training program to reflect changes in education/training expectation since 2005–the last iteration of the model training program:
  • Competencies
  • Counseling Psychology Practice in Primary Care
  • Accreditation for Health Service Psychology
  • Expectations re: research training

  1. Examine and clarify what should be the relationship of SCP to masters-level training (accreditation, licensure and employment opportunities)

Research and Scholarship

Develop counseling psychology research generation support mechanisms [including the funding of research] within SCP–identifying research priorities and funding mechanisms
